Goal

The purpose of this project is to cultivate higher-level thinking, problem solving, and creativity among K–5 Gifted students by immersing them in the study of history’s and science’s most unusual mysteries. Students will strengthen inquiry skills, research abilities, and communication strategies while connecting learning to authentic, real-world experiences.

This project will increase student achievement by:

Advancing STEM and humanities integration through mystery-based investigations.

Strengthening durable skills in research, analysis, and presentation.

Providing equitable enrichment resources and unique field experiences.

Fostering motivation and leadership by allowing students to share learning through a schoolwide showcase.

What will be done with my students

Project Activities & Timeline (2025–2026 School Year)

August – September

Theme launch: Beyond the Known.

Bermuda Triangle explorations and survival invention design.

October – November

Math Mysteries & Optical Illusions labs.

Venus flytrap terrariums and student “mini-museum” creation begins.

December – January

Investigations: Pavlov’s Dog, Phobias, Strange Science, Project Blue Book.

Exhibit panel design, including QR codes with student explanations.

February – March

Topics: Weird Biology, Time Travel theories, and Science of the Impossible.

Field Trip: Pensacola MESS Hall to connect classroom mysteries with professional science demonstrations.

April – May

Culminating showcase: The Weird & Wonderful Portable Museum — an interactive event for peers, parents, and community.

Reflection and evaluation through surveys, rubrics, and student self-assessments.

Evaluation:

Pre- and post-project surveys measuring confidence, curiosity, and content knowledge.

Teacher rubrics tracking growth in research, problem solving, and communication.

Mastery benchmarks: 90%+ of students meet proficiency on gifted PBL rubrics.

Attendance/participation at the culminating showcase measured as a marker of schoolwide impact. 

 

Budget Narrative

Portable Museum Materials: $1,000 (Portable display boards, signage, storage cases; printing/lamination for student panels & QR codes)
Strange Science Lab Enhancements: $500 (Venus flytrap kits, illusion sets, biology models, science kits, invention supplies)
Field Experience :$500 (Transportation & admission to Pensacola MESS Hall)

Total Request: $2,000
