Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Many of my students are beginning readers who need daily opportunities to practice with a wide variety of texts. At this stage, quantity matters. A strong classroom library should include hundreds of books so students can easily find titles at their level, revisit favorites for fluency, and explore new stories that challenge and excite them. Right now, my library is too limited to provide this level of choice and exposure.

By adding a greater number of books, this project will:
*Increase reading volume by giving students more opportunities to read multiple books each week, a key driver of early literacy growth.
*Support skill development by offering enough leveled books for students to practice decoding, fluency, and comprehension daily.
*Build confidence by ensuring new readers can consistently find texts that match their ability, helping them feel successful as they progress.
*Encourage independence by providing enough titles for frequent book exchanges so students always have something “just right” to read.
*Boost achievement as more practice with a variety of books leads directly to improved proficiency and long-term reading gains.

Expanding the classroom library with a larger quantity of high-interest, level-appropriate books will create a reading-rich environment where every student has the resources they need to grow from new readers into fluent, confident ones.

What will be done with my students

To ensure measurable results during the 2025–26 school year, my project will focus on building a robust classroom library and integrating it into daily literacy practice. Activities will be structured around acquiring, organizing, and utilizing new books to directly impact student achievement.

Fall 2025:
*Select and order a large set of high-interest, leveled books across a range of genres and reading levels.
*Catalog and organize books for easy access, creating clear systems for student book checkout and return.
*Introduce students to the expanded classroom library.
*Launch independent reading time, ensuring each student has a “book bag” or “book box” with multiple texts at their level.
*Set student reading goals (number of books read per week/month) and begin tracking progress.

Throughout the 2025–26 School Year:
*Conduct daily independent reading and weekly book talks to encourage exploration of new titles.
*Rotate and highlight books to maintain excitement and variety.
*Monitor student reading to track reading growth and adjust book selection as needed.

Spring 2026:
*Assess student achievement using reading proficiency data, fluency checks, and comprehension assessments.
*Compare progress against baseline data from the start of the year.
*Share results with colleagues, administrators, and grant partners to demonstrate impact and sustainability.

Benefits to my students

This project will directly support my students by expanding access to a wide variety of books, ensuring every child—especially new and developing readers—has multiple opportunities to practice, grow, and succeed. A larger classroom library will provide the daily reading practice needed to build fluency, comprehension, and confidence, while also cultivating a lifelong love of reading.

How the Project Will Support Student Achievement:
*Increased Reading Volume: With more books available, students will read more frequently and complete a higher number of books, which is strongly linked to literacy gains.
*Stronger Literacy Skills: Access to leveled texts will allow students to practice decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills at their just-right level.
*Improved Engagement and Motivation: Having choice and variety will encourage students to read independently and sustain interest in reading throughout the year.
*Equitable Access: Every student will have the same opportunity to engage with high-quality texts, regardless of their home access to books.

How the Project Will Be Measured and Evaluated:
*Baseline and End-of-Year Assessments: Compare beginning-of-year and end-of-year reading proficiency scores to measure growth.
*Student AR Tests: Track the number of books read by each student throughout the year to measure increased reading volume.
*Student Feedback: Collect student reflections on their reading interests, habits, and confidence to gauge engagement and motivation.

By ensuring students have access to the right quantity and variety of books, this project will help them achieve measurable literacy growth and set the foundation for long-term academic success.

Budget Narrative

The primary focus of this project is to expand the classroom library with a large quantity of high-interest, leveled books to support new and developing readers. Currently, the number of available titles is too limited to provide students with consistent opportunities for independent reading practice. By investing in a greater variety and quantity of books, this project will ensure each student has daily access to texts at their independent and instructional levels.

Items Requested:
*Leveled Books for Beginning Readers (fiction and nonfiction sets): To provide multiple options for students who are learning foundational decoding and fluency skills.
*High-Interest Chapter Books: To support students transitioning into more complex texts and to sustain motivation as their skills grow.

Impact on Project Goal:
*Expanding the quantity of books will increase the amount of reading practice students can complete each week, directly supporting gains in fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
*Providing a range of reading levels will ensure every child can consistently access “just-right” texts, which builds confidence and supports measurable growth in proficiency.
*Offering a variety of engaging options will motivate students to read more frequently and independently, helping foster a lifelong love of reading.

By investing in these resources, this project creates a literacy-rich environment that directly supports the project’s goal: to increase student reading achievement through greater access to a wide variety of books.
