Goal

To Empower students with emotional and behavioral disorders to take ownership of positively modifying their social-emotional skills and academic performance.

What will be done with my students

The PBIS program is a behavior management system designed to help the students understand the expectations of the school and classroom. The PBIS program improves and shapes long term behavior using daily point sheets and a level system. The level system has different zones with different incentives and privileges with each zone. The Zones include Gold, Purple, Orange and Green. All students start at the Green Zone and are able to advance to a higher Zone every two weeks if they maintain a score of 80% or higher on their daily point sheets. Students earn daily bonus points for appropriate and on task behavior. Students are able to use the points on Fun Friday to purchase a variety of items from our school store. Fun Friday also includes a theme each week where various activities and food are provided for the students who have an average of 80% for their weekly points. Currently, we have put this program in place with teacher contributions but are quickly running low on supplies The students have responded well with 90% of our students earning Fun Friday on a weekly basis. This is tracked through student point sheets, which are shared through office 365 with al faculty and staff. Once our students achieve and are able to maintain the Ambassador Level for a 9 week period, they have the option of returning to their area school, which is a least restrictive setting. Our goal is to encourage our students to participate appropriately in daily life skills and to interact in a socially acceptable manner.

Benefits to my students

The expected outcome is for our students to develop appropriate social-emotional skills and to motivate our students to make positive educational decisions. The hope is these learned appropriate social skills will continue as they transition to post secondary educational and career opportunities. The students also will also improve in the area of mathematics as they learn to save bonus money to purchase items higher in cost. The students also have to use their math skills to determine what they can afford at our school store. This will also assist with post-secondary budgeting skills.
