Goal

The goal is to get a grade level set of base ten manipulatives that can be shared between first and second grade teachers. It will give students hand on base ten manipulatives to use in math lessons to count, visualize, regroup, etc.  

 

What will be done with my students

The class kits will be signed out and shared by the first and second grade teachers to bring their math lessons to life using hands on models. They will be incorporated in lesson about place values, addition, and subtraction.  

 

Benefits to my students

Students will use the manipulative base ten blocks in their math lessons to learn about place values, convert between place values and visually regroup to understand addition. This will help the students as they progress into intermediate math as they will be able to visualize the ones, tens and hundreds when completing standard algorithm. It will also allow them to connect to the hundreds when looking at decimal models. This is a skill as a math coach that students are missing in intermediate because they do not have experience with these manipulatives in primary when they should.  

 

Budget Narrative

7 sets of class based ten blocks would be purchased from hand2mind via amazon.com. This would provide a grade level set to be shared between first and second grade who need these for our new math adoption.
