Goal
The goal of this grant is to give 5th grade students an opportunity to learn about robotics and coding in an after-school club environment. Through this opportunity, our goal is to cultivate a passion for Science and Technology in our 5th grade students that can grow in years to come.
What will be done with my students
Our plan is to form a Callahan Intermediate STEM Club. The club will be made up of 20 5th grade students who will participate for 6 weeks in a 1 hour club meeting to learn, build, and program a robot. The robots will then been displayed in the Library for the whole school to enjoy and observe. Each club meeting will include a short lesson guided by a 5th grade Science teacher, and then students, working with a partner, will code and build their robots.
Benefits to my students
The benefits to our students will be giving them a hands-on experience with coding and robotics outside of the traditional classroom setting, and to hopefully cultivate further interest in these STEM topics.
