Assisting children with developmental delays in language and communication skills is a major part of the participatory classroom curriculum. These students learn best when presented with photographs of real objects, actions, and modifiers. Taking photographs and color printing of those images can be extremely costly to the teacher. The goal of this grant focuses on the creation of a photo card bank of purposeful, functional vocabulary for children in the participatory class. The durable, colorful photo cards will enhance language learning and provide stimulating prompts for eliciting language from the students.

Goal

What will be done with my students

The durable, colorful photo cards will enhance language learning and provide stimulating prompts for eliciting language from the students. In weekly sessions with speech and language pathologists as well as daily language-rich activities, student in the participatory level class will be introduced to and provided practice with nouns, verbs, and modifying vocabulary presented through color photographs. They can be easily integrated into language games and activities and can be used across grade levels to promote communication skills.  

 

Benefits to my students

My students will benefit from the activities that promote language learning through visual prompts and modeling. The photo cards purchased through this grant will be used to elicit various parts of speech and language. Photo cards will be used in games and practice drills that include language expansion and word and concept identification.  

 

Budget Narrative

The 6 sets of language photo cards will be ordered from School Health Special Education 2019 catalogue which was distributed at the 2019 ATIA Conference. The laminating sheets will be purchased from Office Depot. The laminating sheet will be used on all cards that need additional lamination for durability. Shipping is free on orders over $100/
