Goal

My goal is to provide students with opportunities to deepen their understanding of content by thinking critically and creatively to design and build original models that connect to the content and solve problems. My goal is also to engage students in the learning process while also building necessary 21st century skills like thinking critically, creatively, and working together cooperatively to solve problems.

What will be done with my students

Students will use these resources frequently throughout all content areas. The possibilities for integrating these resources into the curriculum are endless and can be integrated across all content areas. I've listed just a few of the many opportunities to use these resources. In science, I will ask students to build a model flower and label the parts of a flowering plant. In reading, I will ask students to create a tool that can help our main character solve his/her problem in the story. In math, I will ask students to create a model that has a pattern that can repeat and grow. In social studies, students can create their own models for important events throughout Florida's history, like designing a home that a Seminole may live in or model a rocket ship from the Kennedy Space Center.

Benefits to my students

Allowing students the opportunity to use their imagination to design and build their own creations will offer students the ability to deepen their understanding of the content while also engaging them in the learning process. These K'Nex resources will allow students to think critically and creatively to solve problems and deepen their understanding of learning content. Students must be prepared with 21st century skills to be successful in the workforce as adults, and these resources will help build those necessary skills.
