What will be done with my students

My Friday Intermediate (grades 3-4-5) PE Classes and I will choose a Mission from the UNICEF Kid Power website. Each mission has a spokesperson, often a famous athlete the kids recognize, who introduces the country in which UNICEF is working to feed malnourished children. Through this Mission introduction, my students will learn about geography and culture of the location in that mission. There are many missions from which to choose, thus providing my students with challenges and learning throughout the year.

Each Friday in my PE classes in 3rd, 4th, & 5th grades, each student will wear a UNICEF Kid Power Band throughout our PE class activities, which include: warm-up, lesson, lesson activity, and cool down. Upon completion of all of the day’s PE classes, the day’s activity steps and earned Kid Power Points, my PE students and I will download the step count data from the Bands into the free UNICEF Kid Power Band app to my teacher iPad. For every 2, 500 activity steps recorded on the Kid Power Bands, one Power Point is earned. For every 5 Power Points earned, Ready To Use Therapeutic Food Packets (RUTF) are unlocked. These RUTFs are donated and distributed by UNICEF to severely malnourished children in the location my students learned about in the Mission Introduction.

Benefits to my students

This project benefits my students to help them...
1. Learn healthy fitness activities and good nutrition.
2. Learn to help others in need.
3. Learn to use technology to track and improve individual health.
4. Learn about geography and cultures.
5. Learn that one person can impact the world for good.
6. Learn to work together with others.

Budget Narrative

I would like 30 of the UNICEF Kid Power Bands because my class numbers for PE grade 3-4-5 are between 26-30. So I would be purchasing a class bundle of 10 ($399.99) and a class bundle of 20 Kid Power Bands ($599.99). The Kid Power Bands come with a USB rechargeable cord. The three Sabrent 10-port USB Rapid Charger would provide me with the necessary equipment to charge all 30 Kid Power Bands at once so they’re ready for my students.
