Statewide Reach for Local Impact

Close your eyes and imagine the perfect classroom! I bet in this classroom all students would be actively involved and the teachers would know immediately if a student understands what is being taught or if they still need help. However, in reality this is very hard to achieve when every student has a different background and learns at varying rates.
Teachers struggle to give all students immediate feedback so students do not have to wonder or guess if their questions are correct. On the other hand, teachers are always wondering if their teaching is effective and which students still need help with what they are teaching. One way that teachers can remove this hurdle is by giving and receiving immediate feedback on questions. A few tools have been developed to help with this process. One of these tools are handheld clickers, that allow students to answer questions and receive feedback on their answers immediately. Students are able to know if they have the right or wrong answer and teachers can see who in the class still needs help.
The All In Learning company has developed handheld clickers that allow teachers to create a classroom environment where immediate feedback is given. With these clickers teachers may ask or display a question and students will answer using the handheld device. Then the program will immediate display the student answers and allow the teacher to know how many and which student answered the question correctly. Another benefit of uses classroom clickers is that students do not have to be embarrassed or nervous to answer a question that they are not sure of the answer. The teacher will be able to see which students have answered correctly but the class only sees a bar or pie chart of the student responses. This allows students to feel secure that they will not be embarrassed if they do not answer correctly. In conclusion, using handheld clickers can create a positive and very productive classroom environment.

What will be done with my students

If granted the handheld All in Learning clickers, we will permanently integrate them on a daily basis. Students will use them to answer questions that the teacher post on the board or ask during a whole group lesson. This will give teacher the ability to know when students understand a particular concept and can move on to something new or continue more practice. We plan on using the clickers in all subject areas, but especially in math and science classes. By May of 2018, students will have use the handheld clickers at least 3 times a week in either math or science class. We also plan on use the clickers as a fun and exciting review for Florida Standards Assessment that is given in the spring of each year.

Benefits to my students

Currently there are 53 students are 3 teachers that would benefit from having the handheld clickers. However, the clickers will continue to stay with the 5th grade teachers, therefore many more students to come will be impacted throughout the years. By the end of the year, 80% of students will demonstrate proficiency on the Florida State Assessment, teacher created classroom assessments, and/or STAR Enterprise assessment in math and science.
