Goal
The goal of this project is continue to grow herbs and vegetables in our school's aquaponic garden. We are a Blue Zone Certified School and this alternative growing system enriches and educates our students to the alternate ways of growing food.
What will be done with my students
The system needs to be replenished with new fish, and plants/seeds to continue to be utilized by the students of the school. My class will be the caretakers of the fish portion of this system; providing the fish with food. The individual classes of the school will have the opportunity each month to grow a crop in the "garden" portion of the system.
Benefits to my students
The benefits will be the skills the students will gain in growing their own crops and watching how the fish contribute to the entire growing system. The knowledge gained by the students can be applied to the Science and Math curriculum in all grade levels.
Budget Narrative
The Aquaponic system was purchased, 2 years ago, through the FL Agriculture in the Classroom grant. This grant will provide for the supplies to continue the school-wide project.
