Goal

Students will appreciate and understand the importance of insects in the natural world.

What will be done with my students

The students will be able to observe and even interact with insects. They will witness the growth stages up close and personal. Prior to the hatching of the specific insects the students will need to predict what they believe will be emerging. Once we have hatched an insect they will journal about growth, habits and diet.

Benefits to my students

Science should be FUN and I want my students to look forward to coming to my classroom. Insects play a vital link in an ecosystem. I want to instill, in each child, an appreciation for life and both the beauty and value each creature possesses. I have done these in prior years and the students tell me years later how much they learned from it and how they view insects differently than they did before.

Budget Narrative

I have access to frog and butterfly cycles so the addition of lady bugs, praying mantis and two swamp insects will provide the class with engaging , observable changing life throughout the entire year.
