What will be done with my students

Students will build and maintain the Back to the Roots aquaculture kit in our classroom, and they will be working together to read directions, and follow through in assembling the kit in a collaborative manner. They will be encouraged to ask questions throughout the entire project, and will study and examine the benefits of hydroponics in producing plants, and develop critical thinking skills as they write observations each week about the changes they see in this hydroponic STEAM project.

Benefits to my students

This project will encourage students to read, and develop important thinking skills. They will also gain team-building skills, as they take care of this garden each day, and make observations along the way. They will also be encouraged to study the history of aquaculture, fish farming techniques, and where the roots of water-based growing practices began through thought-provoking writing assignments and discussions after caring for this classroom garden.

Budget Narrative

The costs of this project include one hydroponic garden kit, which includes all plants, and gravel, and parts needed to build and maintain this project throughout the school year.
