Statewide Reach for Local Impact

FIND IT FUND IT FLORIDA

Our goal is to encourage our students with disabilities to develop their vocabulary more in our middle grades English Language Arts classroom. We would like to provide organized vocabulary games to enhance our students' overall English Language learning experience. As a teacher, I would like to engage our students more, by providing our students with a thoughtfully presented gamification of the study of vocabulary words, definitions, and spelling of words within our English Language.
Through this gamification of vocabulary word study, our students can become more engaged, and formulate meaningful discoveries of words, all while connecting words to definitions. Students will be able to increase their read-aloud abilities, develop vocabulary, and definition abilities, and ultimately become more confident in the command of the English Language, which leads to a strengthened reading ability, too. Students can then piece together meaningful academic vocabulary words in a fun manner, to become more excited about their natural tendency to accomplish writing, reading tasks, and learning goals within our ELA curriculum goals.

What will be done with my students

Students will be presented five choices of word games during centers to choose from, in order for them to develop vocabulary skills to become active readers and writers. Students will be grouped together to collaborate, share, and connect with vocabulary words through fast-paced, exciting word games, and learning concepts.

Benefits to my students

Throughout this process, students with disabilities will be able to gain and expand vocabulary word knowledge, and discuss vocabulary in a manner that makes sense for students. Therefore, it will help clarify word understanding and definitions for those students who may sometimes face many challenges in their learning. Students can also reach more learning milestones, and clarify their knowledge of vocabulary word definitions along the way.
