Goal

My goal is to teach the life skills necessary for independent living and future employment by instilling confidence and professionalism in each students within the work place.

What will be done with my students

The students volunteer four days each week at various businesses in our community to learn job skills necessary for future employment. Students will learn the importance of wearing appropriate clothing to represent the business in which they volunteer. Each student will participate in shopping for their own uniform, which addresses the basic life skills of knowing their sizes, as well as money calculation and exchange. The uniforms would be kept at school and the students would be responsible for laundering them each week. In addition, the students will have a community experience as we plan our shopping excursion.

Benefits to my students

TAP students have greatly benefited this past school year from the Nassau Education Foundation Grant which provided many opportunities for the students on a variety of community based trips.

This year we are requesting uniforms to project a professional image when on the job site. Five out of seven students are on free lunch and often have difficulty with the proper attire as required by some businesses. Providing a uniform would provide a sense of pride and responsibility.

Budget Narrative

Thank you for considering TAP students for the Nassau Education Foundation Grant. Having uniforms would assist the students who lack the means to pay for appropriate clothing for job sites. Purchasing, wearing and maintaining the uniforms would be incorporated into our life skills curriculum.
