Nassau Education Foundation - $1,000.00
Goal
To continue introducing studtents to 3D printing and to advance those who began this year.
What will be done with my students
Students will be introduced to a 3D printer and various CAD programs. They will learn how to create items using this technology and their imaginations. Students who have done this will be allowed to advance their training and their techniques acting as mentors to the others.
Benefits to my students
Introducing students to 3D printing allows them to see and experience new technology at their fingertips. Completing a project enables them to see how the world of STEM touches them. I have been amazed how many students really got into this and the designs they created. After introducing this year's group, I have heard many more boys and girls desire to become engineers in many fields. Even those who didn't think they were interested in science have become enthralled in this process. I would like to expand this program and be able to expand their creations and minds. The new printer is capable of using more than just PLA filament. It can print objects in metal, wood and magnetic. This would be reserved for the advanced students as the filament varies in cost.
Budget Narrative
Dremel Filament is available at Home Depot online for $20-25 a roll. I would need a minimum of 6 rolls. The Printer is capable of using a wide variety of filament. The additional printer takes various types of filament including metal, wood, bamboo and magnet. These filaments costs between $20 - 95 and would be reserved for advanced students. The total cost for this grant would be approximately $3000.00. If this is not granted, please grant at least $300 for the filament for the Dremel 3D.
