My goal is to get a few teacher volunteers and about 15-20 students from Herbert Cambridge Elementary to attend Collier County Public School's annual STEAM Expo! Many students have limited access to real-world STEAM experiences outside the classroom, and this field trip addresses that need by offering interactive learning opportunities and high-engagement activities that deepen their understanding of STEAM concepts.

Project Description

Students and staff will travel on Saturday, January 31st, to Aubrey Rogers High School to participate in the CCPS STEAM Expo. This event provides engaging, hands-on learning opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Many of our students are unable to attend on their own due to parents’ weekend work schedules, so this project ensures they have the opportunity to experience the Expo.

We will invite 15–20 fifth-grade students from Herbert Cambridge Elementary. Students will attend the opening keynote presentation and then explore the STEAM Village, where they can participate in interactive demonstrations, experiments, robotics activities, design challenges, and other creative STEAM stations. Throughout the event, students will be encouraged to explore new interests, ask questions, and make connections to the concepts they learn in the classroom.

When the Expo concludes, staff will take students to lunch before returning to the schools. This project provides meaningful enrichment, exposure to future STEAM pathways, and a memorable learning experience they can carry back into the classroom.

Expected Outcomes

Students will experience STEAM in an exciting, new way as they experiment with different tools and challenges. These interactive activities will deepen their understanding and reinforce what they have been studying at school.

Purpose of Funding

This project will benefit 5th grade students at Herbert Cambridge Elementary School and extend their scientific knowledge!
