a) Purpose & Needs
The purpose of this project is to create a classroom where students feel excited to show up, do their best, and treat each other with kindness. Every day, students earn tickets for positive choices, which lead to raffles, prizes, and special moments like “Lunch with Mrs. Steele.” These simple rewards mean so much — students light up at the chance to share pizza and laughter with their teacher. Many middle schoolers need that extra encouragement and sense of belonging, and this program makes sure every child feels seen and celebrated.

b) Learning Goal / Academic Outcome
When students feel valued, they learn better. This project motivates them to stay focused, participate more, and take pride in their work. It also helps them build confidence, practice teamwork, and develop the positive habits that carry into all areas of life. At its heart, this project isn’t just about pizza or prizes — it’s about creating a joyful, supportive space where students can thrive academically and personally.

Project Description

a) Project & Activities

In my classroom, students earn tickets every day for doing the right thing—helping a classmate, staying on task, or showing kindness. At the end of the week, tickets go into a raffle. The most popular prize? “Lunch with Mrs. Steele,” where a student and a friend share pizza or Uber Eats with me in the classroom. Once a month, we celebrate together with a class party. These simple activities turn good choices into something exciting and give students memories they talk about long after.

b) Meeting Student & School Needs

This project meets the needs of my students by giving them encouragement, belonging, and something to look forward to. Middle school is tough, and not every child feels seen for the good they do. These celebrations highlight their effort, kindness, and growth. The result is a classroom where students want to be—joyful, connected, and ready to learn.

Expected Outcomes

a) What Will Improve/Change

Because of this project, students will feel more motivated, recognized, and connected in the classroom. They will be more likely to stay on task, participate in lessons, and support one another. Beyond academics, they’ll build confidence, practice kindness, and take pride in their positive choices. The celebrations—whether a pizza lunch or a monthly party—help transform behavior into a community-building experience, making school a place students are excited to be.

b) How Outcomes Will Be Measured

I will measure outcomes in two ways:

Behavior & Engagement: Tracking fewer behavior redirections, more completed assignments, and increased student participation in class.

Student Voice: Using short reflection forms and informal feedback, students will share how the program motivates them and makes them feel about school.

Together, these measures will show that students are not only behaving better but also becoming more engaged, confident learners.

Purpose of Funding

Use of Funds & Alignment with Purchases

Grant funds will be used to directly support the Positive Behavior Incentive Program by covering the costs of weekly raffle prizes, monthly celebrations, and student lunches with the teacher. Specifically, funds will purchase items such as gift cards, snacks, school supplies, pizza, and meals.

These items align with the purpose of the project by ensuring that students are consistently rewarded for positive behavior and have meaningful celebrations to look forward to. By removing the financial burden of self-funding, this grant allows the program to continue and grow—creating joyful, motivating experiences that strengthen our classroom community and support student learning.
