Kindergarteners at Lake Trafford will explore and learn how to represent numbers 1-10 in multiple ways using a variety of math manipulatives in a math toolbox.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
My students will use the different manipulatives to explore number representation in a hands-on approach. They will use multiple manipulatives to make connections between counting and numbers recognition. They will use these toolboxes throughout the year in whole group, small groups and individual settings.
This will benefit my students by providing them with exploration of math strategies and gaining confidence in their math learning. This will build a strong foundation that Kindergarteners need in order to be successful as they get ready for first grade.
Students will use the pencil boxes to hold these manipulatives as their own personal math toolbox. Inside, students will use the mini erasers and counting bears to show numbers on a number line and ten frame. Students will use ten frame pop-its to represent numbers in the beginning of the year as they learn their numbers. As the year continues, students will use the pop-its and without numbers and rekenrak for adding and subtracting.
