Goal(s)

The purpose of this project is to provide flexible seating options, including a standing desk and a few flex seating chairs, for my advanced math small group classes. Many of my students are highly capable but also experience challenges with focus and self-regulation due to ADHD and/or high energy levels. Traditional seating arrangements can limit their ability to stay engaged and productive during class. By providing alternative seating, I will create an environment where students can channel their energy in positive ways and remain attentive to the rigorous math content.

Project Description

This project directly supports the academic goals of increasing student focus, engagement, and perseverance in advanced math problem-solving. Students will be better able to sustain attention, collaborate productively, and demonstrate mastery of grade-level and above-grade-level math standards. 

 

Expected Outcomes

The project will fund the purchase of one standing desk and several flexible seating chairs to be used in my advanced math small group setting. Students will be able to choose a seating option that helps them focus, whether standing, sitting in a traditional chair, or using flex seating. These tools will be integrated into daily math enrichment sessions, small group instruction, and independent practice. This project meets the needs of my students by acknowledging and accommodating their unique learning profiles. Providing movement-based seating options allows students to regulate their attention, reduce off-task behaviors, and improve stamina for extended math activities. On a schoolwide level, it models the importance of inclusive practices and differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners. 

 

Purpose of Funding

The grant funds will be used to purchase a Flex-Space Standing Desk for Two (Item #LC231GA) and several comfy, compact flex seating chairs. These items will create a flexible learning environment where students can choose seating that best supports their focus and comfort.

The standing desk provides a versatile work space that promotes movement and physical well-being while maintaining a collaborative setting. Its heavy-duty laminate surface, rugged construction, and adjustable height with locking casters ensure durability and adaptability for a wide range of student needs. The built-in footrest and compatibility with Flex-Space stools make it a comfortable option for students who prefer to stand or change positions throughout class.

The compact flex seating chairs will allow students to sit comfortably in different classroom areas, including small group tables, reading nooks, and at the new standing desk. Their wipe-clean vinyl surface ensures easy care and durability for daily use.
