The overall purpose of this project is to help with the funding of the set, props, and costumes for both of our theater productions this year. We are doing Descendants in the fall and Matilda in the spring. For costumes alone, it is $600 per show, and then I am wanting to use the remaining $400 per show to help offset our set production costs and any other props we may need to buy for the shows. The learning goals that are attached to this project are that students are actively engaging in how to produce a theater production. Students will be learning how to inventory costumes and learn how to develop, fundraise and put on a successful production.

Project Description

The project will help the students be able to interact with costumes, sets and props that they will be constructing and help build for the shows. Through my class they will learn how to successfully manage a theater production and understand how all of these elements come together for the show. Students will be involved in constructing props and set pieces from cardboard and other everyday materials as well as students will be helping in the painting of the backdrops for the show. All of these elements tie directly into working as a team for a theater production and showcasing their work on the stage for the actors to use.

Expected Outcomes

The improvement and change for the students will be them being able to explore all the elements of theater onto the stage. Not every show has the funding for costumes, and it is my hope to be able to get both of these shows funded in this regard. Students will be able to construct, and build the items that are seen on the stage. This is new for this class and I am wanting them to be able to be immersed into the real world application of theater. Students will have a greater understanding of how to inventory costumes that we borrow as well as understand all that goes into fundraising and building for two theater productions. The hope is that through this funding, we will be able to acquire or build all the props and scenery needed for the school year.

Purpose of Funding

The grant funds directly will be going to the cost of the scenic, prop and costume elements for the show. All funds will be used towards the productions so students are able to understand what it is like to be in a theater production. The goal is to have enough money to be able to acquire what we need since our shows are donation based to come. If we were to receive this funding, it would greatly help us offset all the extra costs for our sets, costumes, and props that need to be built or borrowed this school year. Your donation would be going towards all the materials I would need to purchase in order for the students visions to light up onto the stage!
