The overall purpose of this project is to provide my first year classroom with hands on literacy manipulatives and resources to help aid literacy lessons, centers, and instruction. I hope to use these manipulatives to support students in their learning to develop skills in phonics, reading and writing by using these interactive literacy resources. My goal is to create a student-centered learning environment that meets the needs of all learners with the help of these literacy manipulatives.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
This project will provide a variety of different hands on literacy manipulatives that will be used to teach and guide learning in the classroom. Activities will include using sentence stems to create sentences, games that get students engaged and excited to learn sight words, boards that focus on the correct formation of the letters in the alphabet, and to encourage collaboration and discussion in the classroom. I am a strong believer that every student learns differently and by having visual aids and hands on learning manipulatives it can help me reach the needs of all of my learners.
When implementing literacy manipulatives and visual aids into instruction students will become more engaged and confident when focusing on reading, writing, and phonics. Students will be able to physically explore different concepts with the help of these manipulatives.
These grant funds will be used to purchase several different literacy manipulatives, visual aids, and resources I can implement into literacy centers, lessons, and instruction. As a first year teacher these resources can help guide my instruction and build confidence, engagement, and excitement in my future literacy lessons.
