a) Overall Purpose and Needs Addressed:
The purpose of this project is to provide the School Beautification Staff Action Team with a laser wood cutter that can be used to create custom door plaques, signage, and wood art for our campus. This tool will allow us to enhance the school environment with personalized, professional-looking displays that build school spirit, celebrate student achievements, and create a welcoming atmosphere. The need it addresses is the desire for long-lasting, creative, and cost-effective materials to beautify the campus and make our school a more engaging and inspiring place for students, staff, and visitors.
b) Learning Goal or Academic Outcome:
This project supports student learning by connecting creativity, design thinking, and real-world application. Students will be able to participate in the design and planning process for the plaques and art pieces, giving them hands-on experience with technology, problem-solving, and collaboration. The project also ties into STEM (through use of design software and laser technology), art (through creative design and aesthetics), and leadership skills (through student involvement in the beautification process). Ultimately, it promotes pride in the school community while developing students’ critical thinking, technical skills, and sense of ownership in their environment.
School-Wide, Grade-Level, Or Class Events/Programs - Parent Nights, Honor Roll Celebrations, EOY Events, PBIS, LIM, etc.
a) Project Description and Activities:
This project will provide our School Beautification Staff Action Team with a laser wood cutter to create custom door plaques, signage, and decorative wood art for the campus. The cutter will be used to design and produce personalized classroom door markers, motivational signs, and school spirit displays. Activities will include planning designs with students, teaching them how to use design software, and collaborating with staff to decide on themes and messages. Finished projects will be installed throughout the campus to create a warm, inspiring, and unified environment.
b) Meeting the Needs of Students, Classroom, and School:
This project addresses multiple needs at once. For students, it fosters creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on experience with real-world technology. It also builds a sense of pride and ownership in their school by allowing them to contribute to lasting improvements. For classrooms, personalized door plaques help create identity, belonging, and recognition. For the school as a whole, the project enhances campus aesthetics, strengthens community spirit, and makes the environment more welcoming to all who enter. In addition, the project supports cross-curricular connections—blending art, technology, and teamwork—while promoting a positive and motivating learning atmosphere.
a) Improvements/Changes for Students:
Through this project, students will experience a stronger sense of pride and ownership in their school environment. They will see their creativity and ideas come to life in the form of custom plaques and artwork displayed around campus, which will foster belonging and motivation. Students will also develop valuable skills in design, technology, and collaboration as they participate in creating the projects. Overall, this will improve school culture, encourage engagement, and create a more welcoming environment for learning.
b) Measuring Outcomes:
We will measure outcomes in several ways:
Student Engagement: Monitor the number of students actively participating in design and beautification activities.
Student Feedback: Gather reflections and surveys from students about how the beautification projects impact their sense of pride, belonging, and motivation.
Campus Environment: Collect feedback from staff, students, and visitors on how the new plaques and art enhance the school’s atmosphere.
Sustainability of Impact: Track how often the laser cutter is used to produce new projects over time, showing its continued value in supporting both learning and beautification.
The grant funds will be used to purchase a laser wood cutter and air filter to support the school beautification team at PCR.
