Project Description

The Outdoor Loose Part Play program can be used during daily recess, enrichment activity learning times, and outdoor exploration free play to enhance students’ imagination, creativity, and motor skills. The materials are non-prescriptive, and students can move, combine, redesign, and use them in countless ways. Natural items, such as stones, sticks, and shells, can be added by students as they self-direct and contribute to the learning process. Recycled materials will also be available. 

 

Expected Outcomes

The Outdoor Loose Parts Play will support students' physical activity levels and improve their fine and gross motor skills. It will also foster students’ creativity, cooperation, and social skills, while increasing their engagement during recess.
Engaging in open-ended loose parts play outdoors will foster the development of the whole child. The children will strengthen their independence and sense of self. They will explore, plan, construct, and deconstruct. As they play, they will investigate and engage with others and the world around them. Working with loose parts outdoors provides opportunities for problem-solving, social-emotional development, and cognitive development. They will learn to cooperate, categorize, compare, and analyze, all while engaging with each other and the loose parts, finding joy along the way!

The requested materials will be purchased via Amazon and Walmart using the school's account. The purchases will be tax-exempt. The Amazon order will include free shipping.
