The purpose of this project is to establish a sustainable classroom reward system that motivates students, reinforces positive behavior, and cultivates a culture of responsibility and respect while directly addressing the need to increase engagement, improve classroom management, and support social–emotional growth. By providing meaningful and consistent incentives, including rewards for students who pass their iReady lessons with an 80% or higher as well as Accelerated Reader (AR) tests with an 80% or higher, the system promotes on-task behavior, participation, and perseverance, which strengthens both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. This, in turn, maximizes instructional time, reduces disruptions, and enhances student learning outcomes. The reward system is specifically aligned to academic goals in English Language Arts (ELA), supporting growth in reading comprehension, writing stamina, and overall literacy proficiency, while simultaneously helping students develop the positive habits and self-discipline necessary for long-term success.

Project Description

This project will implement a classroom-wide reward system designed to motivate and engage students while reinforcing positive academic and behavioral choices. Students will earn incentives for achieving success on key academic tasks, such as passing iReady lessons and Accelerated Reader (AR) tests with an 80% or higher, as well as for meeting classroom expectations, showing responsibility, and demonstrating perseverance in challenging tasks. Incentives will include tangible rewards (school supplies, small prizes, or tokens), recognition opportunities (student shout-outs, leadership roles, or certificates), and participation in classroom celebrations, ensuring students see a clear connection between their effort, growth, and success. This project meets student needs by fostering motivation, accountability, and self-confidence, while also reducing off-task behavior and maximizing instructional time in the classroom. At the school level, the system supports broader goals of improving literacy proficiency, increasing student engagement, and aligning with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), ultimately contributing to stronger student outcomes, higher morale, and a supportive school climate that values growth and achievement.

Expected Outcomes

Because of this project, students will demonstrate improved motivation, greater accountability for their learning, and increased confidence in their academic abilities. By tying rewards to mastery of key skills—such as scoring 80% or higher on iReady lessons and Accelerated Reader (AR) tests—students will develop stronger reading comprehension, writing stamina, and perseverance when tackling challenging tasks. The reward system will also foster positive behavior and a more focused learning environment, which will maximize instructional time and reduce disruptions. These outcomes will be measured through both academic and behavioral data, including growth in iReady diagnostic and progress monitoring scores, AR comprehension percentages, classroom assessment results, and a reduction in discipline referrals or off-task behaviors. Additionally, student engagement will be tracked through participation rates in the reward system and teacher observations, providing both quantitative and qualitative evidence of the project’s impact.

Purpose of Funding

The grant funds will be used to purchase student incentives and classroom materials that directly support the reward system and its alignment with academic goals. Items such as tokens, small prizes, certificates, school supplies, and organizational materials (e.g., bins, containers, or display boards) will provide tangible rewards that recognize student success on iReady lessons and Accelerated Reader (AR) tests with an 80% or higher, as well as positive behavior and responsibility in the classroom. In addition, funds will support materials for class-wide celebrations, such as snacks, decorations, or activity supplies, which build community and reinforce the importance of teamwork and effort. Each of these purchases connects directly to the project’s purpose: motivating students, reinforcing positive behavior, and increasing literacy proficiency by creating a consistent, engaging, and meaningful reward system that celebrates both academic and social–emotional growth.
