After using our current 3-D printer for the last two years, my students have become quite proficient in the daily running of it. To extend our learning and provide a more sophisticated 3-D product, students need an upgraded model of the 3-D printer which allows for a variety of multi-color/multi-use options.
Entrepreneur/DECA students will survey the student population as well as the faculty/staff on current trends and needs and will take their results and see if their ideas can translate into 3D objects that they can create and sell. These objects will not only be sold at the entrepreneurial marketplace at the 'Grinchmas Celebration’ but also any of the community events that we have at CPM. Students will also create products to be sold at our CPMarket, which is the school store run by student entrepreneurs/DECA members.

Goal(s)

After using our current 3-D printer for the last two years, my students have become quite proficient in the daily running of it. To extend our learning and provide a more sophisticated 3-D product, students need an upgraded model of the 3-D printer which allows for a variety of multi-color/multi-use options.

Category

Electronics - Headphones, charging cables, computer mice, etc.

Project Description

Student entrepreneurs will research trends in the market that fall into the middle school age range to see what is currently popular. Students will then take the research and survey the student body. From the results of the survey, students will draft plans on what they think would sell and see if their ideas can be built using 3D printing. Students will also survey faculty and staff to see what CPM adults need, which could be built and sold at the school store.

Expected Outcomes

Students will learn how to research trends, survey, and compile the results. Students will look at cost effectiveness of products that they will create and see if the item would be more cost-effective and profitable if created using a 3D printer over other materials. Students will collaborate with each other and their consumers to produce a viable product that has a high return on investment. Students will learn how to use a more sophisticated 3D printer and how to take care of the printer when it is either being used or stored. Students will also learn how to create 3-D products from scratch using Apps that will help them build their own STL files.
Measurement of success will come from 3-D programming, use, files and products. Also the final sales analysis of products created and sold at our Marketplace and community events.
