Project Description

Fifth grade students will use the digital scales during science investigations involving matter, mass, and changes in physical properties. Activities may include measuring solids and liquids, conducting experiments on mixtures and solutions, and collecting data for graphing and analysis. The scales will allow students to move beyond observation into precise scientific inquiry, building confidence in using real-world tools.

Expected Outcomes

Students will demonstrate improved accuracy and confidence in measuring mass verses the current balance scales. Students will apply measurement data to support claims and conclusions in labs. Collaborative group work will be enhanced as students share responsibility for scientific tools. Overall science proficiency and curiosity will increase, as evidenced by classroom participation and assessment results.

Purpose of Funding

I am requesting $110 to purchase 10 digital scales for 70 fifth grade science students. These scales will provide students with hands-on opportunities to engage in accurate measurement, data collection, and experimentation aligned with state science standards.
