As a new high school ESE teacher, I am working to build the tools and resources my students need to be successful in both daily instruction and assessment. One of the most essential supports for my students is access to headphones for oral presentation accommodations. Many of my students require assignments, assessments, and state tests to be read aloud in order to demonstrate their true knowledge and skills. Without headphones, these accommodations are limited and difficult to provide in a way that protects student privacy and minimizes classroom distractions.

In addition, chargers are a constant need in the classroom. Many ESE students forget or misplace their chargers, or come to class with devices at low battery. When this happens, they lose valuable instructional and assessment time because they are unable to use their required technology for learning or testing. As a new teacher, I do not yet have spare headphones or chargers available to meet these needs.

Project Description

By providing a classroom set of headphones and backup chargers, I will be able to ensure that every ESE student has consistent access to the accommodations and tools they need. Headphones will allow students to use text-to-speech and oral presentation features discreetly, helping them focus without distracting peers. Chargers will reduce disruptions, ensuring that learning and testing time is maximized.

Expected Outcomes

Equity and Access: Headphones allow students who need oral accommodations to participate on equal footing with peers, ensuring their IEP needs are met.

Privacy and Confidence: Students can listen to oral presentations privately, without feeling singled out in front of classmates.

Maximized Instructional Time: Backup chargers prevent lost learning time when devices run out of power.

Improved Academic Outcomes: Consistent access to accommodations helps students demonstrate what they know, rather than being limited by barriers in reading or technology access.

Purpose of Funding

This grant will be funded for headphones and chargers in my room. These are durable resources that can be used for years and shared among multiple groups of students. Having them readily available in the classroom ensures that every student can learn and test in a supportive environment without interruption.
