The purpose of this project is to provide middle school students with the materials and opportunities to explore collage as a form of creative expression and visual storytelling. Many students do not have access to quality art supplies outside of school, which limits their ability to fully engage in hands-on, standards-based artmaking. By funding this project, students will have equitable access to the essential tools needed to experiment with layering, composition, and mixed media techniques.

Goal(s)

The purpose of this project is to provide middle school students with the materials and opportunities to explore collage as a form of creative expression and visual storytelling. Many students do not have access to quality art supplies outside of school, which limits their ability to fully engage in hands-on, standards-based artmaking. By funding this project, students will have equitable access to the essential tools needed to experiment with layering, composition, and mixed media techniques.

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

Project Description

This project will engage middle school students in creating collages that combine images, textures, and colors to express personal meaning. Students will practice cutting, layering, and arranging compositions while integrating drawing and painting to enhance their work. The project provides equitable access to quality art supplies, allowing all students to participate fully. It meets classroom needs by encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and confidence, while supporting school goals of fostering self-expression, cultural awareness, and student voice.

Expected Outcomes

Through this project, students will gain greater confidence in their artistic abilities, improve their problem-solving and design skills, and learn how to express personal meaning through visual art. They will also have more equitable access to quality materials, which will allow all students to fully participate and succeed regardless of background.
Outcomes will be measured through student reflections, classroom observations, and completed collage projects that demonstrate creativity, use of design principles, and personal expression. Success will also be evident in student engagement, willingness to take creative risks, and the quality of finished work displayed in the classroom or school exhibitions

Purpose of Funding

Grant funds will purchase paper, adhesives, scissors, and decorative materials for student collages, along with colored pencils, markers, and paints to enhance their work. Storage bins will keep supplies organized and accessible. These materials ensure all students can fully participate and create meaningful, high-quality projects.
