The overall purpose of this project is to provide students with functional seating that adapts to the needs of the educational environment. With class sizes ballooning, being able to group students in different ways and having functional and adaptable seating to do so is more important than ever. A secondary effect of the functional seating that I am requesting is that it will provide students that have difficulty focusing an outlet for their extra energy. In providing this outlet, students will be better equipped to learn. The main academic outcome will be more efficient instruction and better focused students.
Class Furniture - Carpets, transitional seating/desks, etc.
With an average of around 27 students per class, the seven items requested would add functionality to my classroom. The functional seats requested allow the ability to quickly pull students aside for remediation, enrich students in small groups, and enhance my ability to have students collaborate. When applicable, I strive to include project based learning into my courses and the enhanced functionality of the seats requested helps build collaboration zones within my classroom.
These seats will help with student time on task, enhance collaboration, foster communication and much more. The improvements provided to the learning environment will have direct impacts on a host of learning outcomes. If approved for this funding, I will also collect student feedback to determine the effectiveness of the functional seating purchased. If the impact is great enough, I will attempt to secure more funding to continue to better the learning environment. I will also help colleagues secure funding for similar products if the survey results deem the functional seating as high-impact as I anticipate.
The funds will be used to purchase the functional seating to enhance the classroom experience for students. As stated above, there are many benefits to this project with the greatest in impact being improved classroom functionality and improving student focus. These funds would help purchase items that are not covered under the regular school budget.
