Goal(s)

My hope is to strengthen our school-wide reading culture and support our goal of raising student reading achievement. By providing access to Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) books and the new Orange Blossom books, this project encourages students to participate in engaging, high-quality reading opportunities. The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) program is designed to encourage students across Florida to read widely, explored new genres, and develop a love for reading. This project also incorporates the new Orange Blossom books, which further expand students' choices and motivate reluctant readers by offering fresh, exciting titles. Together, these programs provide structures opportunities for students to challenge themselves, talk about books with their peers, and set personal reading goals.

Project Description

Students will participate by selecting books from the SSYRA and Orange Blossom list, reading independently and taking AR quizzes to demonstrate their understanding. Each time they pass a quiz, they will receive a brag tag celebrating their achievement, which serves as a visible motivator and a way to track progress over time.

This project meets the needs of my students by making reading both purposeful and enjoyable. Many of our students struggle with reading proficiency, and they benefit from structured opportunities to practice with text that are both rigorous and appealing. The brag tags add an extra layer of motivation, turning reading into a school-wide culture of celebration and achievement.  

 

Expected Outcomes

SSYRA and Orange Blossom books will help students broaden their reading interests, improve comprehension skills, and build stamina as readers.

Student progress will be monitored through AR quiz data, including the number of SSYRA and Orange Blossom books read and passed, as well as quiz proficiency rates. These measures will ultimately support our goal of improving overall reading test scores.  

 

Purpose of Funding

The purpose of this funding is to purchase a set of SSYRA books, Orange Blossom Books, and accompanying brag tags for students. These materials give all students access to a wide variety of engaging texts that encourage independent reading and support our school-wide goal of raising reading scores.
