Project Description

Last year, our Leaders of the Month were recognized with a special treat, a certificate, and a photo displayed in the hallway display cases. However, the process was entirely teacher-led since photos had to be printed from a teacher’s phone and sent to Walmart Photo. This year, our goal is to shift this celebration into a student-led initiative. With the addition of a digital camera and photo printer, student leaders will take ownership of the process. Each month, they will gather their grade-level peers, snap a group photo, print it instantly, and proudly display it in our Leadership Hallway. This simple change transforms the recognition into a hands-on leadership opportunity for students.

This project empowers students by moving them from passive participants to active leaders. By taking charge of the monthly photo process, students gain responsibility, practice collaboration, and develop practical skills in technology and project management. The immediate display of photos makes recognition more meaningful, encouraging all students to strive toward positive leadership and reinforcing the 7 Habits across the school. In addition, the project supports our classrooms and school culture by celebrating student success in a visible, student-driven way. It builds pride, strengthens our sense of community, and creates a lasting, positive impact in our Leadership Hallway.

Expected Outcomes

Students will gain authentic leadership opportunities by taking on the roles of photographers and designers for our “Student Leader of the Month” displays. Having ownership over capturing, printing, and showcasing their peers will foster responsibility, pride, and creativity. Students will not only celebrate the 7 Habits in action but also feel recognized and valued when they see themselves and classmates highlighted in the hallway. This project will increase student engagement, boost self-confidence, and strengthen our positive school culture.

Student participation: Tracking the number of students involved in photography, design, and display creation.

Teacher and staff feedback: Observing student engagement and pride in both being recognized and helping with the project.

School culture indicators: Monitoring increased enthusiasm for leadership recognition (e.g., students talking about or looking forward to the hallway displays).

Purpose of Funding

Grant funds will be used to purchase a digital camera, photo printer, and replacement ink and photo paper to support our monthly “Student Leader of the Month” recognition project. The digital camera will allow students to take high-quality photos of their peers, capturing leadership moments and creating a sense of pride in their accomplishments. The photo printer will be used to print and display these images in our school hallways, making student leadership visible and celebrated across campus.

By having access to this equipment, students will not only be the subjects of recognition but also the leaders behind the lens—serving as photographers, designers, and display curators. This directly aligns with our goal of providing meaningful leadership roles, fostering creativity, and building a positive school culture where students see themselves and their peers celebrated regularly.

This project will empower students to take ownership of leadership recognition while building confidence, creativity, and a lasting sense of pride in their school community.
