In my special education classroom, hearing letter to sound recognition and being read aloud to is crucial in learning literacy. Each student has their district issued computer but we are lacking headphones. With only 2-3 pairs of headphones in our classroom, all students are not able to work at the same time or work independently.
Electronics - Headphones, charging cables, computer mice, etc.
A special needs classroom greatly benefits from having headphones and calculators available for each student, as these tools support individualized learning and help meet diverse educational needs. Headphones allow students to focus by minimizing auditory distractions, which is especially important for those with sensory sensitivities or attention challenges. They also enable the use of audio-based learning programs and speech-to-text tools that assist students with reading or language difficulties. Calculators, on the other hand, help students with learning disabilities in math by reducing the cognitive load associated with basic calculations, allowing them to concentrate on problem-solving and conceptual understanding.
Providing each student with these tools promotes independence, reduces frustration, and creates a more inclusive and effective learning environment.
With these grants funds, my students will be able to have headphones in the classroom and new calculators so each student can have their own.
