Goal(s)

The purpose of this project is to have some supplies and clothing that represent Florida. In Second Grade, students learn about the state of Florida and the major cities in it. We also learn the habitats in science and we teach about the Everglades. Since I took the STEM Academy with FGCU, I wanted to share with my students what I learned about our area of the state and tie in science and social studies to this student leadership team.

Project Description

Our school is a Leader in Me School, so we have student leadership teams that focus on a passion that the teacher has that wants to share with students. I love learning about our state's animals, plants and ecosystems. I want to have some materials that students can use and have to represent what we have learned about our state. Students will learn about key stone animals and invasive animals in Florida. I want them to learn about some historic landmarks, national parks and teach them some activities they can do here like bird watching and fishing.  

 

Expected Outcomes

Sometimes we don't have all the time to fully teach students about where they live. We live in one of the best states in the country for ecotourism. Students aren't aware of all the great places and activities they can do here. I want to give them that knowledge and have them share it with their families. My give back for this student leadership team will be that students will present what they learned about Florida.  

 

Purpose of Funding

These supplies will help me teach students what the state of Florida represents. Students will have the flags to have at their home to show they are a citizen of Florida. They will use the animal toys to see what important animals we have in our state and create a activity (diorama/play)using the toys. I want students to have shirts that have things that represent Florida and they can use them when they do their presentations. Also, The magnetic fishing poles to teach the basics of fishing and what species of fish we have in Florida.
