Goal(s)

The purpose of this project is to empower the Art Stars leadership team to use art as a means of service, connection, and positive impact. The project addresses two key needs: first, the need for students to develop leadership, collaboration, and empathy through meaningful service experiences by helping spread kindness in school, and second, the need to provide companionship, creativity, and joy to senior citizens in the community. By creating and sharing artwork with a retirement center, students will uplift community members and foster a culture of friendship and service within the school.
b) This project directly supports the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students and school community. For students, the project provides an opportunity to develop leadership skills, practice collaboration, and engage in authentic service learning that extends beyond the classroom. The use of art enables students to express themselves creatively while developing essential problem-solving and communication skills.

Project Description

a) Description of the Project and Activities
The Art Stars leadership team will create and share original artwork with residents at a local retirement center, using art as a tool to spread joy and build intergenerational connections. Activities will include designing themed artwork, preparing notes of encouragement, and leading school-based initiatives that promote kindness and friendship.

b) Meeting the Needs of Students, Classroom, and School
This project meets student needs by fostering leadership, creativity, and collaboration while providing a meaningful service-learning experience. It supports the classroom by promoting teamwork, empathy, and responsibility. For the school, the project strengthens a culture of friendship and inclusivity while extending its impact into the wider community through connections with the retirement center. 

 

Expected Outcomes

a) Improvements/Changes for Students
Students will build leadership, collaboration, and communication skills while gaining empathy and responsibility through service. They will also contribute to a more positive school culture by promoting friendship and inclusivity.

b) Measurement of Outcomes
Outcomes will be measured through student reflections, teacher observations of leadership and teamwork, and feedback from the senior center on the impact of the artwork. 

 

Purpose of Funding

Grant funds will be used to purchase art supplies and materials needed for students to create great projects to share with the retirement center and for displays within the school. Specifically, funds will support items such as paints, brushes, canvases, markers, and many more. These resources will ensure students have the tools to produce meaningful and lasting pieces that reflect both creativity and care.
