a) Overall Purpose and Need
The purpose of this project is to provide essential school supplies for our math students, ensuring they have the tools necessary to stay organized and prepared throughout the school year. Many of our students lack consistent access to basic supplies, which creates barriers to learning and achievement. By equipping them with the right materials, we will remove unnecessary obstacles and allow them to fully focus on building their mathematical skills. This project addresses the need for equity in the classroom and ensures every student has the resources to succeed.
b) Learning Goal and Academic Outcome
This project supports the academic goal of helping students develop strong organizational skills and foundational knowledge in entry-level math courses. Having the correct tools not only promotes preparedness and responsibility, but also builds a solid base for success in future, more advanced math classes. By meeting students’ organizational needs now, we set the stage for higher achievement, confidence, and long-term growth in mathematics.
School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.
a) Project Description and Activities
This project will provide our math students with essential supplies that support both organization and learning. Students will receive binders, sheet protectors, pencils, and calculators—materials they can keep and use throughout all four years of high school, including on crucial standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT. In our classroom, we use a specific style of note-taking that emphasizes organization, clarity, and visual learning. To implement this, students need art supplies for color coding, which helps them distinguish between key concepts and retain information more effectively. Additionally, we will provide algebra tiles and other manipulatives to give students a hands-on way to visualize abstract mathematical concepts. These activities ensure that all students—whether auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learners—are engaged and supported.
b) Meeting the Needs of Students, Classroom, and School
This project will directly meet the needs of our students by ensuring they have consistent access to the tools required for learning and organization. Having the proper supplies eliminates stress, builds confidence, and helps students focus on mastering content rather than worrying about resources they may not have at home. On a classroom level, organized students are better prepared to follow lessons, complete assignments, and actively engage in learning activities. For the school as a whole, this project contributes to long-term academic readiness by providing calculators and other materials that students will continue to use in higher-level courses and on college-entry exams. By giving our students the right tools now, we are setting them up for academic success not just this year, but throughout their entire high school journey.
a) What will improve/change for your students because of this project
Through this project, students will experience increased organization, preparedness, and engagement in their math classes. With access to the necessary supplies—such as binders, sheet protectors, pencils, calculators, and color-coding materials—students will be able to maintain organized notes, complete assignments more efficiently, and better prepare for classroom activities and assessments. Visual learners will also benefit from manipulatives like algebra tiles, which will help them better understand abstract concepts. Overall, students will build stronger foundational skills that will support them in future math courses and standardized testing, such as the SAT and ACT.
b) How these outcomes will be measured
We will measure improvements in student organization through regular binder checks and notebook reviews, using a rubric that evaluates completeness, neatness, and adherence to our note-taking system. Teachers will monitor students’ ability to locate and use their materials effectively during class and will track the consistency of their organization over time. In addition, we will compare student performance on formative and summative assessments before and after receiving the supplies to evaluate academic growth. Feedback from students and teachers will also be collected to assess how the materials are supporting learning, confidence, and classroom readiness.
The requested grant funds will be used to purchase essential supplies that directly support student learning, organization, and long-term academic success in mathematics. Specifically, funds will be allocated to provide:
Binders and sheet protectors to support our structured note-taking system, helping students stay organized and maintain a reliable study resource throughout the year.
Pencils and calculators that students can keep and use not only in class, but also throughout their four years of high school and on critical standardized exams such as the SAT and ACT.
Art supplies for color coding to enhance our specific note-taking strategy, allowing students to visually organize concepts and improve retention.
Algebra tiles and manipulatives to provide hands-on learning opportunities for visual and kinesthetic learners, making abstract math concepts more accessible.
All requested items are carefully aligned to the project’s goals: improving student organization, supporting different learning styles, and building a strong foundation for success in current and future math courses.
