The purpose of this project is to support the development of social communication skills in middle school students with social pragmatic disorders. As a speech-language pathologist, I work with students who struggle with skills such as conversation, perspective-taking, emotional regulation, and interpreting nonverbal cues—challenges that often impact their academic performance and peer relationships. This grant will allow me to use Everyday Speech during my scheduled speech and language therapy sessions to provide structured, engaging, and evidence-based instruction that directly targets these areas of need.
The primary learning goal of this project is to help students make measurable progress on their IEP objectives related to pragmatic language and social interaction. By improving their ability to communicate effectively and navigate social situations, students will also gain confidence, participate more fully in classroom activities, and develop stronger peer relationships. Ultimately, this project aims to support both the social-emotional and academic growth of my students through consistent, targeted intervention.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
This project will fund a subscription to Everyday Speech for use in my middle school speech and language sessions. As a speech-language pathologist, I work with students who have social pragmatic communication disorders. I will use the program during individual and small group therapy to target skills such as conversational turn-taking, understanding social cues, perspective-taking, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. Everyday Speech offers video modeling, interactive lessons, and printable resources that align directly with students’ IEP goals.
This project meets the specific needs of my students by providing a structured, engaging, and evidence-based approach to teaching social communication skills. Many of my students struggle to interact appropriately with peers, which impacts their academic success and social development. Everyday Speech will allow me to deliver consistent and effective instruction, helping students build the communication skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
By incorporating Everyday Speech into my speech and language therapy sessions, I expect students with social pragmatic communication disorders to show noticeable improvement in their ability to engage in appropriate social interactions. Specifically, students will develop stronger skills in areas such as conversational turn-taking, interpreting nonverbal cues, understanding social norms, managing emotions, and resolving conflicts. These improvements will help them participate more effectively in classroom discussions, collaborate with peers, and build more meaningful relationships. Progress will be measured through regular data collection aligned with students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, observational notes during sessions, and pre- and post-assessments available through the Everyday Speech platform. Additionally, teacher and parent feedback will be used to monitor generalization of skills across settings, helping ensure lasting impact beyond the therapy room.
The requested grant funds of $499.99 will be used to purchase a one-year subscription to Everyday Speech, an evidence-based, web-based program designed to support students with social pragmatic communication disorders. As a speech-language pathologist at a middle school, I will use this subscription during my scheduled therapy sessions to provide structured, engaging instruction targeting skills such as conversation, emotional regulation, perspective-taking, and social problem-solving. This program includes video modeling, interactive activities, and printable resources that align directly with my students’ IEP goals. The funds will be used solely for the purchase of the annual license, which will allow consistent access to high-quality materials that support student progress and enhance the effectiveness of my therapy sessions.
