The overall purpose of this project is to create a more organized and structured art classroom that allows students to use their time more effectively and independently. By creating a color-coded and clearly labeled system for art supplies and materials, students will be able to quickly identify and retrieve the resources they need with minimal assistance. This addresses the need for improved time management, reduces classroom disruptions, and supports students of all abilities—particularly those who benefit from visual structure and consistency.
This project supports key learning goals related to time management, personal responsibility, and independence—skills that extend beyond the art room and benefit students across all academic areas. Additionally, by maximizing instructional time, students will have more opportunities to engage in creative exploration, problem-solving, and fine motor skill development through art-making. The improved structure also helps reinforce routines, which is essential for creating a positive and productive learning environment.
School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.
This project focuses on enhancing classroom organization and accessibility through a color-coded system for art supplies and student materials. By implementing labeled, color-coded bins and containers, students of all abilities will be able to independently and efficiently access the materials they need. Each color pairs to a specific table group, helping students quickly identify and gather the correct supplies without confusion or overlap with other groups. This structured system minimizes unnecessary interruptions and supports smoother transitions, leading to more productive and focused art sessions.
An additional component of the project addresses our free draw and game station, which is currently disorganized and difficult for students to navigate. Replacing worn-out paper buckets with durable, color-coded plastic bins will help preserve free draw materials, improve classroom cleanliness, and support long-term organization.
Last, this project includes upgrading our "Free Draw" binders. Currently, these binders are too small and worn, limiting student access to creative drawing prompts. By expanding to 3-inch binders, students will have a wider range of drawing options, encouraging creativity during free time. Each binder will also be color-coded to match students' assigned tables, making it easier for them to locate their group’s binder independently.
Implementing a clearly structured classroom environment with color-coded and labeled art supply bins will help students quickly and independently access the materials they need, reducing confusion and downtime. This system will help with transitions and significantly improve time management during art lessons, allowing students to spend more time creating and less time searching for supplies. The effectiveness of this improvement can be measured by comparing student transition times and overall classroom efficiency before and after the implementation of the color-coded system.
Color-coded plastic storage bins, library bins and bus tubs to organize art supplies by table group, helping students independently access the correct materials with minimal confusion or interruption.
Durable 3-inch binders in various colors to replace the current worn-out "Free Draw" binders. These larger binders will hold more drawing prompts and activities, expanding student choice during independent creative time.
Labels and labeling tools (such as a label maker, adhesive pockets, or printable label sheets) to clearly mark bins and binders by color and content, ensuring the system is easy to navigate for all students.
Protective sleeves or sheet protectors to preserve and organize free draw pages inside the new binders, increasing the longevity of the resources and keeping them in good condition for repeated use.
