Florida Rep’s Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) series takes the arts/live performances directly into schools. I would like our K-2 students to have the opportunity to be able to experience live theatre. This will impact 300 students within our school. This performance will touch upon many ELA and Arts Standards, which includes Literary Elements and Making Predictions.

Project Description

Students will experience a live performance of "Miss Nelson is Missing" performed by the Florida Rep Theatre on our school stage. The Rep theatre brings props, costumes, and a sound system to enhance the play. The performance is geared towards K-2 students and is interactive. It is important to note that watching theater offers students a multitude of developmental benefits, including enhanced emotional intelligence, improved communication skills, and increased creativity, confidence, and imagination. It also fosters social skills, empathy, and a love for the arts.

Expected Outcomes

This project/performance will increase student engagement not only with the Arts but also with Reading and Writing goals. My hopes are that students will be inspired to use the acting out of stories that they read to help build greater comprehension and understanding of the various grade-level texts that they are reading in class. This can be measured by our ELA assessments throughout the year. The Rep cast also offers an opportunity for students gain confidence by encouraging them to ask questions about the play. This experience will offer numerous benefits for young children, including enhanced communication skills, improved confidence, and the development of creativity, teamwork, and empathy. It provides a fun and engaging way for children to learn and grow, fostering valuable life skills that extend beyond the stage.

Purpose of Funding
