a) What is the overall purpose of this project and what need(s) does it address?
The purpose of this project is to bring iPads into the art room so that students can fully express their creativity, explore digital art, and share their work with pride. Right now, we don’t have the tools students need to create digital projects or to easily photograph and upload their artwork. With iPads, students will be able to build personal online portfolios and document their creative journey.
These digital portfolios will not only help students reflect on their growth, but will also allow families and the community to celebrate their work through online showcases. Sharing their art online will support fundraising efforts for the art room—whether through virtual galleries, student art prints, or community donations—helping us build a stronger, more connected creative space.
b) What learning goal or academic outcome does the project address?
This project helps students grow both artistically and personally. They will learn how to use digital tools to express their ideas, build confidence by sharing their work with others, and develop important skills in photography, design, and collaboration—especially through our new digital art and yearbook class. Most importantly, it gives students the chance to feel seen, valued, and proud of what they create. Their art becomes more than just a school project—it becomes a way to connect, communicate, and make a difference in their community.
Electronics - Headphones, charging cables, computer mice, etc.
a) Describe the project and its activities.
This project will bring iPads into the art room to support both hands-on and digital creativity. Students will use the iPads to take high-quality photos of their artwork, create digital illustrations, and organize their work into personal online portfolios. These portfolios will be used to showcase student growth, support applications to art programs, and help share their creativity with families and the wider school community.
In our new digital art and yearbook course, students will also use the iPads for editing photos, designing page layouts, and producing the school yearbook. They’ll learn how to use creative apps and tools that reflect real-world digital media practices.
b) How will this project meet the needs of your students, classroom, and/or school?
This project meets a growing need for accessible technology in the art room. Many students don’t have the resources at home to explore digital art or build digital portfolios. iPads will give every student the chance to create and share their work using creative tools, making the artistic process more inclusive.
For the classroom, this project opens up new opportunities for teaching digital skills alongside traditional art techniques. It allows students to take ownership of their learning, reflect on their progress, and connect with others through their creativity.
a) What will improve/change for your students because of your project?
This project will give students new opportunities to create, share, and be proud of their work. With access to iPads, students will be able to photograph their artwork, experiment with digital tools, and build online portfolios that show their growth. They’ll gain confidence by seeing their work presented and shared with their families, classmates, and the community. In our new digital art and yearbook class, students will also learn teamwork, design, and project management skills as they help tell the story of our school.
Most importantly, students will feel that their creativity matters. For many, having their work displayed online or featured in a yearbook is the first time their voice is truly seen and heard. This project helps every student feel included and valued.
b) How will you measure these outcomes?
Outcomes will be measured in a few ways, both formally and informally. I’ll look at:
- Student portfolios: Growth over time will be visible in the work students upload—from early projects to final pieces.
- Participation and engagement: I’ll track how many students contribute to online showcases, yearbook pages, or portfolio submissions.
- Student feedback: Students will reflect on their experience through short surveys and classroom discussions, sharing what they’ve learned and how it made them feel.
Beyond numbers, I will be listening for the quieter signs of success: students who light up when they see their work online, who take more pride in their creations, and who start to see themselves as real artists with the potential of continuing art past high school and maybe even to creative focused career.
The grant funds will be used to purchase 5 iPads along with accessories that support digital art creation and protect the devices in the classroom. These iPads will enable students to photograph, edit, and upload artwork for digital portfolios and yearbook projects. The iPads and accessories purchased through this grant will be shared among students during class time in the art room and digital art/yearbook courses.
Estimated costs:
•5 iPads @ $320 each = $1,600
•5 Protective cases @ $50 each = $250
•5 Stylus pens (budget-friendly models) @ $30 each = $150
Total cost: $2,000
These items will equip students with reliable, user-friendly technology to create digital art, document their work, and collaborate on yearbook design. The cases will help protect the devices during daily use, and the stylus pens will provide the precision needed for digital drawing and editing.
This carefully planned purchase supports student creativity, digital literacy, and community engagement by giving students tools to share their work both in and out of the classroom.
