Project Description

Last year we launched our peer tutoring program called Study Buddies. Our older students in 3rd- 5th grade help our younger students in K-3rd practice foundational skills two mornings a week before school. It was a huge hit for both the tutors and and students being tutored. We began with math last year and this year we are looking to expand into reading skills this year.

Expected Outcomes

We hope that by giving our struggling students an opportunity for additional practice, they will become more proficient and master these foundational skills. By mastering these specific skills, they will be able to engage in more complex skills and tasks within the classroom.

Purpose of Funding

These materials will help up add reading materials to our Study Buddy peer tutoring program. Many of our students need extra practice with identifying letters, sounds, and sight words. Our older students will have the materials they need when tutoring our younger students. This will have a direct impact on reading performance in the classroom as well as helping our older students develop leadership skills. We are working hard this year to take a "one team" approach to our success as a school.
