Goal(s)

We are requesting color ink for our printers in our IBI Unit to create high-quality visual aids for non-verbal students.

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

Project Description

These printed images are essential tools in supporting their communication, learning, and engagement throughout the school day.

Expected Outcomes

Using color visuals significantly enhances understanding and retention, especially for students who rely on picture-based communication systems such as PECS or AAC boards. Access to color ink will allow us to provide these students with clear, consistent, and engaging materials tailored to their individual needs.

Purpose of Funding

The grant funds will be used to purchase color ink cartridges to support the printing of visual communication aids for non-verbal students. These printed materials include individualized communication boards, visual schedules, emotion cards, choice boards, and instructional visuals—all of which are essential for facilitating meaningful interactions and promoting independence among students with limited or no verbal language.

Color visuals are more effective than black-and-white alternatives for this population, as they increase engagement, improve comprehension, and support generalization across settings. The use of color helps students more easily distinguish between symbols, people, objects, and routines—key factors in successful implementation of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) strategies.

This request directly aligns with the submitted item(s) for purchase:

Color ink cartridges for use with the classroom printer.

These resources will be used daily to produce customized communication supports that meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring that grant funds are used purposefully and in direct service of student learning and communication outcomes.
