The purpose of this project is to increase student engagement and deepen understanding of life science concepts through interactive digital learning and hands-on labs. A year-long subscription to Blooket Plus will give students unlimited access to interactive review that keeps them motivated and better prepared for state testing. Purchasing 15 preserved rats for dissection will allow students to connect cell and organ system learning to the structure of a real organism, going beyond two-dimensional diagrams.

This project supports Florida Biology standards, including:

SC.912.L.14.26: Identify the major organs and tissues of various systems of animals and describe their function.
SC.912.L.14.36: Describe the physiology of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, excretory, and reproductive systems.

Blooket Plus will be used year-round for review, while dissections provide a culminating application of structure and function in living organisms. Together, these resources prepare students for the Biology EOC and future science courses.

Project Description

This project meets student needs by providing both interactive and practical experiences. Many students benefit from game-based learning to build confidence and improve retention, especially when preparing for the Biology EOC. The rat dissection gives students an essential lab experience that connects classroom learning to the structure and function of organisms. Together, these activities support different learning styles, increase engagement, and provide experiences our school could not otherwise offer.

Expected Outcomes

Students will show greater engagement, stronger retention of key biology concepts, and improved understanding of how cells, tissues, and organs work together. The use of Blooket Plus will make review more interactive, while dissections will provide a lasting hands-on experience that connects theory to practice.
Outcomes will be measured through student performance on classroom assessments, progress on Biology EOC review activities, and lab reports from the dissection. Student participation and feedback will also be used to track increased engagement and confidence in science.

Purpose of Funding

Grant funds will be used to purchase a one-year subscription to Blooket Plus and 15 preserved rats for dissection. The Blooket Plus subscription will provide students unlimited access to interactive review games throughout the year, helping them practice key biology concepts and prepare for the EOC exam. The preserved rats will be used in a culminating lab activity, giving students a hands-on opportunity to observe organ systems and connect classroom learning to real biological structures. Both items directly support the curriculum and provide meaningful learning experiences that our classroom budget cannot cover alone.
