Category

Class Furniture - Carpets, transitional seating/desks, etc.

Project Description

Our 5th-grade classrooms are currently equipped with traditional desks and chairs, which limit flexibility and collaboration. With grant funding, we will purchase a variety of alternative seating options, including:
Soft floor cushions and low tables for group work and reading activities as well as cushioned bench for informal collaboration and brainstorming.
These seating arrangements will be rotated and available for all students, allowing them to choose a setup that supports their task and learning style. Teachers will structure lessons to take advantage of these flexible spaces, promoting teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Expected Outcomes

Increased student engagement and participation in class discussions and group work. Improved focus and on-task behavior, especially for students who struggle with traditional seating. Enhanced collaboration and communication skills through more dynamic group arrangements.

A more inclusive and supportive environment that values student choice and diverse learning needs.

By investing in alternative seating, we are creating a classroom culture where students feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to work together toward academic success.

Purpose of Funding

The purpose of this funding request is to provide alternative seating options for 5th-grade students to foster a collaborative and engaging learning environment. Research shows that flexible seating encourages movement, improves focus, and allows students to choose the learning space that best suits their needs. By introducing options such as floor cushions, comfortable seating and lap trays, we aim to create a classroom space that supports collaboration, creativity, and academic achievement.
