Goal(s)

a.) The overall purpose of this project is to enhance the quality and completeness of our percussion section. Currently, our drum set is missing this type of crash cymbal, which limits students’ ability to perform standard drum kit arrangements and reduces the authenticity of their musical experience. This project addresses the need for a fully equipped drum set to support both classroom instruction and public performances.

b.) This project supports the following learning goals:

1.) Musical proficiency: Students will learn proper technique and timing using a complete drum set.
2.) Performance readiness: A full kit allows students to prepare for concerts, competitions, and community events with professional-level equipment.
3.) Collaboration and ensemble skills: Students will be better equipped to contribute to group performances, improving coordination and musical communication.

Project Description

a) Project and Activities
This project involves the purchase of a crash cymbal to complete a full drum set for our high school music program. The crash cymbal is a vital component of modern drum kits and is essential for performing a wide range of musical genres, including rock, jazz, pop, and concert band arrangements. Once acquired, the cymbal will be integrated into daily music instruction, ensemble rehearsals, and public performances. Students will engage in:
1.) Practicing percussion techniques with a complete drum set
2.) Preparing for school concerts, competitions, and community events
3.) Learning how to use percussion instruments to enhance musical dynamics and expression

b.) This project meets several important needs:

1.) Student Development: It provides students with access to a complete instrument, allowing them to develop proper technique and musical fluency.
2.) Classroom Enrichment: A full drum set enhances the quality of instruction and allows for more accurate performance practice.
3.) School Representation: With a complete set, our music program can present polished performances that reflect the talent and dedication of our students, helping to build school pride and community engagement. 

 

Expected Outcomes

a) Improvements for Students
With the addition of a crash cymbal, students will benefit from a more complete and authentic musical experience. This will:
1.) Improve their technical proficiency on the drum set by allowing practice with all standard components.
2.) Enhance their musical expression and dynamics, especially in ensemble settings.
3.) Increase confidence and engagement during rehearsals and performances.
4.) Support preparation for competitions and public performances, where a complete drum set is essential.

b.) We will measure the success of this project through:
1.) Student performance assessments, focusing on rhythm, technique, and musicality.
2.) Teacher observations of student engagement and skill development during rehearsals.
3.) Participation in performances, including concerts and competitions, where the full drum set will be used.
4.) Student feedback on how the complete drum set has impacted their learning and enjoyment of music. 

 

Purpose of Funding

The grant funds will be used specifically to purchase a crash cymbal to complete the drum set used in our high school music program. This cymbal is a critical component of a standard drum kit and is essential for performing a wide range of musical styles and pieces. This purchase directly aligns with the submitted item list and supports our goal of providing students with a complete, high-quality drum set for instruction, rehearsals, and performances.
