The primary purpose of this project is to create a dedicated sensory-friendly area in my office that helps K–5 students regulate their emotions and behaviors during times of stress, anxiety, or sensory overload. By integrating liquid sensory floor mats and an LED fish tank into a calming corner, I can provide students with non-verbal, sensory-based strategies to reduce agitation, increase focus, and return to learning-ready states.
School-Wide, Grade-Level, Or Class Events/Programs - Parent Nights, Honor Roll Celebrations, EOY Events, PBIS, LIM, etc.
The sensory mats offer tactile and visual input through slow-moving liquid patterns that help ground and calm the nervous system. The LED fish tank offers gentle motion, lighting, and soothing visuals to reduce anxiety and overstimulation. Together, these tools will support the social-emotional development and academic readiness of all students.
This project supports the development of self-regulation and social-emotional learning skills that are foundational to academic achievement. Students who are better able to manage their emotions and behaviors are more likely to: Stay engaged during instruction, participate actively in classroom activities, develop stronger peer relationships ,and demonstrate improved focus and task completion.
By teaching students how to recognize when they need a break and providing tools to reset in a healthy, non-disruptive way, the project reinforces self-awareness, self-management, and responsible decision-making.
I will purchase these through amazon and each of the purchased items is directly aligned with the goals of creating a safe, calming space for emotional regulation and self-soothing.
