iPads can be valuable tools for students with sensory sensitivities by offering personalized, controlled, and engaging learning experiences. They can be used to minimize distractions, provide customized learning environments, and support communication and self-regulation. iPads can provide calming sensory input, such as favorite videos or interactive stories, allowing students to regulate their sensory input and manage overstimulation. iPads can be used to present information in multiple formats (visual, auditory) and customize the presentation (e.g., adjusting font size or color) to suit individual sensory preferences and needs. iPads can be used to create and present social stories or visual schedules, helping students understand social situations and routines, which can be particularly helpful for those with autism.

Goal(s)

iPads can be valuable tools for students with sensory sensitivities by offering personalized, controlled, and engaging learning experiences.

Project Description

The iPad can meet a lot of different needs. The rapidly growing selection of APPS available makes going to the APP store an incredible journey. Some ipad apps are designed specifically for the special communication needs of individuals with autism. Some popular choices include Proloquo2Go (for communication), Choiceworks (for visual schedules), and apps like Autism iHelp and Speech Blubs, which focus on social skills and language development. The ipad Air will have the capability to access all of these and more!

Expected Outcomes

iPads can be used to create and present social stories or visual schedules, helping students understand social situations and routines, which can be particularly helpful for those with autism. Our students will see an increase in social emotional skills with access to these materials.
