The overall purpose of this project is to recognize and celebrate students who achieve success in earning industry certifications through their Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. These certifications are a critical step toward workforce readiness and post-secondary success. By providing t-shirts as a tangible form of recognition, this project addresses the need for student motivation, encouragement, and visibility of academic and career-focused accomplishments. Many students work diligently to master the skills and knowledge required to pass these rigorous exams, yet often receive limited recognition. The t-shirts serve to affirm their hard work, boost confidence, and inspire a positive culture of achievement within the school community.
This project supports the academic outcome of successful completion and mastery of industry certification exams aligned with Florida state standards and CCPS CTE curriculum goals. These certifications validate students' proficiency in job-related skills and are recognized by employers and post-secondary institutions. By incentivizing certification success, the project promotes engagement in course content, mastery of technical skills, and long-term college and career readiness. It also supports soft skills such as goal-setting, persistence, and pride in achievement—critical components of lifelong learning.
Clothing/Backpacks - T-shirts/jerseys, concert performance shirts, backpacks, duffle bags, etc.
This project will provide t-shirts to students who successfully pass an industry certification exam in their Career and Technical Education (CTE) course. The shirts will be awarded as part of a recognition effort to celebrate their hard work and achievement. Students have input on the shirt design, tracking and verifying students who pass an industry certification, hosting small recognition events in the classroom, and sharing success stories/photos on school communication channels. This recognition effort will take place throughout the school year as students complete their certifications.
This project meets the needs of students by providing meaningful recognition for a rigorous academic and career-focused achievement. Many students in CTE programs come from diverse backgrounds and may not always receive acknowledgment for their accomplishments. Receiving a t-shirt offers a tangible reward that boosts confidence, validates their efforts, and builds a sense of pride in their academic identity.
For the classroom, this project creates a positive, motivational environment that encourages students to stay engaged and work toward their certification goals. It supports peer motivation, as students see classmates being celebrated and want to achieve the same recognition.
At the school level, the project helps promote a culture of college and career readiness. The visibility of the t-shirts on campus sends a strong message that industry certifications are valued and achievable. It also supports school and district goals related to CTE program success, workforce preparation, and student achievement.
Students will experience increased motivation, self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment as a result of being recognized for passing an industry certification. This project will help students feel that their hard work is noticed and valued, which can improve classroom engagement and personal investment in their CTE coursework. Additionally, students will begin to see industry certification not just as a test, but as a meaningful milestone in their career and academic journey.
As more students are recognized, a positive shift in classroom culture is expected—one where certification success becomes a shared goal and source of pride. The project also has the potential to inspire underclassmen and peers to strive for certification themselves, building a stronger college-and-career-readiness culture school-wide. This shift has been noticed in previous years and students.
Outcomes will be measured in a few ways. Firstly, we will track the number of students who pass industry certification exams before and after the implementation of the recognition project to look for growth or sustained success. Additionally, we will collect informal feedback and short surveys from students to assess how the recognition (t-shirts and celebration) impacted their motivation and sense of accomplishment. Finally, observations and comments from teachers and students will help capture the cultural impact—such as increased student enthusiasm, peer motivation, and school spirit.
Grant funds will be used exclusively to purchase custom-designed t-shirts for students who pass an industry certification exam during the school year. The t-shirts will serve as a reward and recognition tool, promoting a sense of pride and achievement.
Each shirt will feature a motivational design that may include all CTE program names, school logo, and a phrase such as “Certified” to highlight the student’s accomplishment. The estimated cost is $10 per shirt, depending on quantity and design. Funds will cover the production and printing of approximately 200 t-shirts. An image of the back of the shirt is attached to this grant.
This purchase aligns directly with the project's goal of celebrating certification success, increasing student motivation, and fostering a positive culture around academic and career achievements in the classroom and school.
