The purpose of this project is to recognize and celebrate students who demonstrate positive character traits, leadership, and personal growth. Through the use of picture
frames displayed in a special classroom, we aim to highlight students who have been
nominated as house leaders or who consistently exemplify the values our school
promotes. This visual recognition system supports a positive school culture and helps students feel seen, valued, and motivated to contribute in meaningful ways. It addresses the need for student engagement, motivation, and community building within our grade level’s house system.

b) What learning goal or academic outcome does the project address?

This project supports social-emotional learning by promoting self-awareness, responsible decision-making, and positive relationships. It also encourages students to take ownership of their behavior and contributions to the school community. By tying recognition to specific attributes such as responsibility, kindness, perseverance, and leadership, we foster a growth mindset and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a contributing member of a learning community. These outcomes indirectly support academic success by creating a more inclusive and motivating environment for all students.

Project Description

a) Describe the project and its activities.

This project involves creating a visual recognition system using picture frames to highlight students who demonstrate outstanding character, leadership, and contributions to our school community. As part of our grade level’s house system, students are nominated by teachers and peers to serve as house leaders based on their positive actions and personal growth. Once selected, their photos will be displayed in designated frames in a special classroom, along with a short description of their accomplishments. This display will be updated regularly to reflect new leaders and to give more students the opportunity to be recognized over time.

b) How will this project meet the needs of your students, classroom, and/or school?

This project meets several important needs within our school community. First, it supports students’ social-emotional development by reinforcing the value of good character and leadership. Recognition builds self-esteem, encourages positive behavior, and fosters a sense of belonging. For classrooms, it helps create a culture of respect, accountability, and pride. At the school level, it strengthens the house system by making leadership visible and aspirational, encouraging all students to strive for excellence not just academically, but as compassionate, responsible individuals. By celebrating students publicly, we create a more inclusive and encouraging environment where everyone has the opportunity to shine.

Expected Outcomes

This project will increase student motivation, engagement, and positive behavior by providing visible, meaningful recognition for their efforts and character. Students will feel a greater sense of pride and belonging as they see their peers and potentially themselves honored for demonstrating leadership, kindness, responsibility, and other important traits. We also anticipate improved classroom culture, as students are inspired to support and uplift one another in the spirit of healthy, values-based competition within the house system. Overall, students will develop stronger social-emotional skills, a greater awareness of their impact on the school community, and increased self-confidence.

b) How will you measure these outcomes?

How we will measure the outcome:
Student nominations and participation: We’ll track how many students are nominated and recognized over time, aiming to include a wide range of students from different backgrounds and ability levels.
Teacher observations: Educators will document observed improvements in behavior, leadership, and peer collaboration.
Student feedback: Periodic reflection activities or short surveys will gather student input on how recognition impacts their motivation and feelings of belonging.
Discipline and behavior data: We will monitor any changes in classroom or school-wide behavior referrals to see if positive reinforcement is contributing to a more respectful, engaged learning environment.
These outcomes will help us refine the project and ensure it continues to meet the evolving needs of our students and school community.

Purpose of Funding
