Goal
The goal of the Communication Playground Sign is to give each child a voice to express their needs and wants as well as continue to grow and foster an all inclusive learning environment, where students feel comfortable to make new friends, openly communicate, and help those in need.
What will be done with my students
A large Core Communication Sign with symbols familiar to our students would be installed on the
playground. Printer and poster versions are used throughout the building, and staff and students are
very familiar with them in common areas. An outdoor sign, made of durable material, would withstand repeated use and the weather. It would allow staff and students to point to symbols to help students understand directions and model how to use language on the playground.
Benefits to my students
At Sea Gate Elementary we have many students who are unable to communicate their needs through traditional communication. Some of these students use devices that allow them to press symbols to “speak” words out loud, or point to pictures to express needs/wants. A communication board would not only benefit the school as a whole to facilitate a inclusive setting, but it would allow allow students who are feeling frustrated to have symbols and words right in the moment to eliminate frustration and to show other students another way to communicate.
Budget Narrative
Approximately $2000.00 to have a custom sign made that would be installed on the
playground. We have a quote from playground communication boards for a aluminum 45x30 Bilingual Communication board. https://playgroundcommunicationboards.com/cart-2/
