Goal

It is my goal to help first grade students develop communication skills, through preforming arts activities. Students will improve their verbal and nonverbal communication skills, including speaking, listening and problem-solving skills by incorporating academic content working with the Think Theater. It is my hope by combining academics with drama student reading and math scores will be improved.

What will be done with my students

The Think Theater representatives will work directly with three classrooms teachers to implement a five-day lesson format. Each lesson provides building blocks that will result in a culminating project/student performance. Students will build a strong work ethic, develop deeper understanding of academic content, learn social skills, and be encouraged to synergize with others to create something together. The content of the performance will have a direct correlation to benchmarks for the grade level.

Benefits to my students

I believe the benefits of the 1st grade residency in money will help my students receive a strong foundation in coin recognition and gain the ability to count different coins. The students will gain financial literacy and be able to make informed decisions about money management. Through acting students are 100% engaged. When a student has mastered a goal, it is expected that they can go above and beyond in their knowledge limited to a paper and pencil test. The Think Theatre provides students opportunities to reach their academic goals and instills a sense of confidence, self-reliance, and independence through theatrical transformative experiences.

Budget Narrative

The one thousand seven hundred-fifty dollars will cover the cost of 3 classroom residences. Each residency is a five-day program where the representatives (team) work alongside the teacher to provide engaging lessons that directly related to what the students are learning in the classroom.
